How much to charge for instalation of tile per sq. ft.?

Question:

It depends on if it is new construction or remodel. Remodel always take longer. So it is more. Plus underlayment type. Durock is harder to install than Hardibacker. And the other thing is ceramic vs. stone. Stone costs more due to tight grout line, which means you have to probably have to pull more pieces to float them next to other piece. What I mean is if a piece doesn't level out next to another piece, because of the tight lines, it is more noticeable, and as you are setting, you have to pull a piece up to add mortar to "float" it flush with another piece.

That being said, $2.00 per square foot is reasonable, really cheap. That just setting ceramic tile and grouting. New construction. If installing underlayment add $0.75 / sq.ft. If remodel add 75%. And if stone, start with $3.50 to $4 / sqft and start adding extra's. And this is regional. In the mid-west, that is fair prices. Other places could be more or less. Try to get several prices.

I'm assuming you asking for your self. Well, remember the lowest or highest price doesn't indicate quality. I've seen people charge $3.00 / sqft do substandard work. And I've seen people charge under $2.00 do good work. What you need to do is seek references. And if possible look at their most recent job.

Good Luck

Wall or floor?Anyway i think the going rate can be anywhere from 2 dollars to 3 dollars a square
At a local flooring comapny, when I checked on installation of tile for my floor, it was $4.50/ sq ft and $6/ sq ft if an underlayment needed to be placed for installation.
You should look at each job on an individual basis. Figure the total amount of man hours to do the job. Divide this by the square feet of tile.
Throwing out a number to a customer is not a good thing!
between 3 or 4 bucks. depending on the state you live in of course. tile installers in alaska charge 250.00 as a base price for a tub surround and the 4 bucks per sf for 12 x 12 on the floor. call a local shop or call other installers in your area they will let you know what the rate is for your community
