Cat odor on a cement floor.?
Question:While cleaning the basement, I discovered that my poor old diabetic cat has decided to use a certain spot as a litter box. Now, I do have a litter box that is cleaned twice a day, so it's not that its too dirty for him to use. So, my question is is there anything I can use to clean the cement floor where the odor is?? Thank you

The other idea that works is to cut an outline in the part of the concrete that has the odour, jackhammer it out, cut the rebar, redo the rebar, and pour new concrete...
The Clorox/pine sol idea is probably the only thing that will work on a high volume of cat urine... The store stuff seems to do a better job with dog urine than cat urine...
Try scrubbing the area using a long handled scrub brush, with hot Clorox water. Let this dry, then scrub it down with hot Pine Sol water. Let it dry completely. Open any windows that can be opened to air the basement out.
There are products at the pet store to remove the odor. I think oxyclean may work too. Put it in hot water and pour it on the place. Let it stay a while. Make sure you keep your pets away so that they don't drink it.
Bleach and orange peel cleaner.
Mix a gallon of bleach with a 16.oz bottle of orange cleaner, put in a pump sprayer and soak the floor.
Note# Open all the windows and wear some kind of ventilator. The ammonia in the urine will react with the bleach.
I use a product called OdoBan for our cats. I've tried EVERYTHING under the sun, and this is the only thing I've found to work.
Works good for dog/cat/kid ulp too.
I bought it at Sam's Club...not sure if other stores carry it too.
Try letting it soak w/ vinegar on it, then scrub.
Very simnple. odors are bacteria and germs. All you have to do is kill the germ and you kill the smell.
Now..@@@@@@BLEACH IT FULL STRENGTH
DON'T USE BLEACH!!! I can't remember what they recommended but I remember that bleach on urine makes it worse.
Cement is porous. So, cleaning the surface of the concrete will not help much unless the cleaner penetrates the concrete and kills whatever is causing the odor. There are a number of products that may work but my suggestion to you would be to seal the concrete floor with a concrete paint or clear sealant. That way you will kill two birds with one stone. It will seal the odor in that you have now and make future clean ups far easier! Good luck!
There is a product called Urine Gone that will take away the smell and the stain.
get rid of the cat
We also had a elderly incontinent cat, that was going on unsealed concrete. I used something from my vet called Eliminator. They have a website gotpee.net I swear by this stuff, I tried everything and this is the only one that got rid of the smell completely. I DO NOT recommend bleach!! It is like mixing bleach and ammonia, it is very dangerous.
Good luck :)
Vinegar and water 50/50 this has worked for many years for orders. stubborn smells like skunk spary this has worked GOOD LUCK
Use muriatic acid they sell it at home depot, lowes, ect. or if you can't find it there check pool supply stores
DO NOT USE BLEACH. Cats find bleach to be an form of aphrodisiac. If you use bleach a cat will keep returning to the spot because their olfactory glands tell them its their territory.
There are some excellent commercial products now specifically for your needs. If you can't find any in one of the big box stores, call a pet store and ask them. They should be able to refer you to the right place. Good luck.
