For anyone who builds bookshelves / does woodwork ...?
Question:A friend is building me a six-foot-high, two-foot wide pine bookshelf. I want to pay him something for it and am wondering what it would commercially be worth, or what kind of price you would put on such a structure.
Answers:
it really depends on the style he is building the quality and the kind of material if it is going to be pine or fir for a shelf that is build well a value for a friend would be in the neighborhood of 50-70 dollors if its oak ceder or cherry walnut anything like that your probley looking at 70-100 all this depends on the quality and if its finished with a quality varinish
if its a throw together shelf you could probley bet it to be worth about 20-30 bucks
I would say about $120 but that includes the lumber. if you purchased the lumber you need to deduct that amount and give him the rest.
Go to the Internet and check out catalog or "big box" stores. Find something similar for sale and you've got your price.
The other alternative is to be gracious if he has offerred to do it for free. Generally, men like to do stuff like this because it shows off their prowess.
