Help with my rusty trombone?

Question:My wife just pulled an extremely rusty, old trombone out of the closet. Any thoughts to help improve the quality of it? It wasn't unbearably hideous, but it could definitely be cleaned up. Any thoughts?

Answers:
There is nothing like a rusty trombone

go to music store that sells and fixes instruments- im sure that they could fix it up in no time
My son was told to wash his in the bathtub. His was brass and silver. Once dry use 'Brasso' polish to bring back the shine. Oil the valves and slide with highly refined mineral oil like-(3in1 machine oil) or music store oil. It's odd that you say rust. Rust is a term for iron oxide that generally occurs on steel and iron parts. If thats the case then get some 000 or0000 steel wool to clean those parts of 'rust'. Keep in mind that steel wool will scratch highly polished surfaces.
a good cleaning usually does the trick, but the really rusty ones can be trouble
