What's the best way to mount a window air conditioner?

Question:

Answers:
The best way is not the cheapest. Home centers and hardware stores sell brackets just for this purpose. They have all the screws you need and are adjustable so you can easily level the air conditioner. The cheapest way is to use 2X4s built as a right angle triangle with one side of the triangle screwed securely to the house and shimmed so that the platform it forms is level. You use two of these that are installed level with each other.

stick it in the window?
I would recommend mounting it in a window. Do not try to put it in a door.
it depends on the size of the unit. the smaller units like you 5000 and 6000 btu arevery easy all you do is put the slide curtains on that are supplied and they sit in the window sil and you just close the window on top of it if it is a bigger unit then you have to use the support bracket and all you do after you put that together all you do is screw it into the window sil and you just close the window on top of it as well and it sits there perfectly.
The best, easiest, and cheapest is to screw two hooks into the rafters overhanging the window. place (swing set) chains on the screws and mount through the vents on the sides and back of the A/C. Leave the unit tilted slightly down on the back end. Set the front of the unit in the window.
