I need to remove the locking mechanism from my old desk at work but I don't know what kind of screws they are!
Question:Ok, bare with me here. I know a decent amount about tools and stuff. It is NOT a flathead screwdriver, not a phillips, and not an alan wrench-- I know this for SURE. The indent in the screw that you insert the tool into is SQUARE. I need to know what kind of tool I need to remove this kind of screw from my desk or I will go insane because it keeps locking itself!

It sounds like you are having problems with the gang bar and/or it's related linkage. You are looking for a Robertson screwdriver, a Canadian invention. The small size is # 1 green [color code], medium size #2 red [most common], and large, which is #3 black. There is also less common; smaller size, I think #0 yellow, but I'm not sure, and also a much larger size, likely a #4. It is a wonderful screw to work with, you stick it on the bit or screwdriver, and it stays there quite securely, and often you can run it in, using one hand.
just go to lowes and ask for a square head driver, my wife has asked me the same question!! youre just gonna have to wing it on the size though because i cant see it to tell you what size it is but if you look at the drivers youll be able to get really close.
Home Depot has square drive bits that should work. They are made mostly for decking screws.
