My tub is leaking and I dont know what the problem is now!?

Question:My tub was leaking so I thought it was the washers. Yes one washer was destroyed so I changed both to be on the safe side. Then I opened up the water and it still out leak.

Now I called Aces hardware up and told this guy Marvin about it and he said the seat is probably damaged . So I went back to Aces and got a seat wrench and a seat for inside of the stem.

Well all is finally working well. No more leaks except around the tub I have 1 " calking stipes so no water can go in between the walls. Well the leak has stopped, but the truly orginal problem is still there. There is a leak dripping from somewhere and its going inside of the spout 1" strip calking and dripping ever so slowly on the side of the wall and trickling into the tub.

Does anyone know what else can cause this? I need help very much thank you so much

Answers:
check to make sure the area behind the spouts and wall ar also sealed. also the soap dish if in the wall must also be sealed. any gaps and water from showering will run down the wall and in and around anything. look close to make sure no cracks are evident. seal everything with a good silicone caulk. these problems are usually harder to find than fix.

make sure that the spout is screwed on tightly. you may have to unscrew the spout and check it for cracks, if all is fine try using thread sealing tape and screw spout back on
Make sure you do not have an air conditioning line that runs in that area - if you do:
- Check the insulation around the lines - if its worn replace it ( insulation).
Because .. ... if the insulation is not protecting the line, and if the air around the line is warmer than the line itself this relatively warm temp will cause that line to sweat, and it will appear to be a drip / leak but it is really the AC line sweating behind the wall.
I had this problem myself, and took so doing to narrow it down to this.

Oh, and did you use " Teflon Tape" around the threads of your faucet??
