Basic Building Question re: porch?
Question:Have a wooen home and a woorden porch that is off the ground on concret blocks. I have some space that I would like to use to enlarge the porch (it's adjacent to it). Using the Same foundation (elevated on concrete blocks) What kind of a frame should I build? I have the measurements but how to i secure the frame? (bolts, nails, etc.)
Answers:
Wood to concrete connection can be secured/adehered by using wood frame bolted on concrete zocalo or blocks through steel plates...there are different kinds though and i guess we have different construction techniques and materials available in our country.

Also, check to see if you need a building permit.
When you get the permit, usually they tell you what you need to do as far as the frame and foundation. You can't put any kind of addition on your house or deck without a permit. (in most states, if not all)
The best thing you can do is match the existing porch as closely as possible you can attach a 2x12 or 2x10 whatever is on your existing porch using galvanized lag screws, then using brackets and buckets made by Simpson strong tie or a similar product available at most home centers and lumber yards to frame it out. Now the permit problem since you are attaching to your house this will become part of your structure and you will need a permit. For this you will need to submit a basic design. Some building inspectors may give you advice but most will not design it for you. I've had some building depts accept a drawing on notebook paper and some will want an engineers drawing with an engineers stamp on it for a project like this. I hope this helps you as I would need more information for a more detailed answer.
code officer will tell you to dig a 3 to 4ft hole for supports . unless you live in country.
