Question:

Answers:
if it is new either contact the dealer or call custome service they should be able to help - if you have not read the manual this would be great thing to do as a first step

I'd be returning it or calling the manufacturer. That many BTU's should cool a whole house.
Usually 5 or 10,000 BTU's will cool a room very well depending on size.
Check you instruction booklet but it should be way more than enough.
that sounds like a huge unit!
we quit using our a/c several yrs back,,200 month power bill,,now we use three 5ooo btu a/c.
our power bill is only 70 to 100 a month.
is it a 220 volt or 110?Our home is about 1600 square foot.
either way,,if ur not happy,n u paid cash etc for it,take it back.
If its on cold,,sum have heaters in them also,,check the switch to be sure what setting u have it on.Is it on fan?cool, cold, heat?
check the book for operations setting first,,a friend of mine had one,it had heater built in,,some people may not realize that, and it uses more enegry than others.
If u take it back,,buy several smaller units to replace the big one. That way at least u will always have one for a back up.Buy enegry star products,u will be suprised at the amount of money usave. Our units paid for themselves the first summer.
Hope thi helps,,good luck and be coooool,,haha
WOW! That is a 2 Ton A/c unit that can cool a small house. If it comes on and goes off in a short period of time it is short cyclying. That means it is way to big for the room.
What is the room size? The store or dealer that sold it should have asked what size room you would use it in and sold you the right one.
First, is the unit blowing any cold air at all? A unit that size should cool a room that is about 1,200 square feet. If that room has a lot of unshaded southern or western exposure, or over 1,200 sq ft, it might not get as cool as you would like it. If you do have a lot of sun, try better shades. Also, a window unit will only cool the room that it is in. You might get cool air down hallways, but not very much into separate rooms, without the use of fans. Another thing to try is to turn your fan setting to "ON" not auto on your furnace. This will help with air circulation and will help cool the rest of the house. I don't mean to be condescending, but make sure all packing material has been removed, make sure the air filters are clean and the drain hose (if equipped) is unobstructed. You should notice condensation coming from the outdoor side of the unit. Also, the unit should be angled slightly so that the outside of the unit is lower than the inside so the condensation isn't running inside your house. If none of these work for you, it may be possible that it is low on charge. It isn't common for a brand new unit to be low, but you know how things go when you mass produce items. Good Luck!
How long did you give it to do the job? Do you relize that everything in the room will need to cool down as well as the air in the room. It is not going to work in a few minutes. It might take a while. Give it a few hours at least or over night before taking it back.
If it was a small unit I would just say take it back to the store. A unit that big weighs a lot so try troubleshooting before breaking you back.

Is the air coming out of the unit cold at all? The air temp should be in the low 40degree range.

Go outside and feel if the fan is working. You should feel a lot of hot air blowing out of the back of the unit.

If the sides are blocked where the unit goes through the wall it may not be able to get enough air in to cool the condenser. Also listen for the compressor running it will sound like a noisy fridge.

A unit this big needs adequate power. Do you have it connected to a properly sized 240V receptacle? If the wiring is too small it may not be getting enough current to run the compressor.
first thing i would check is the outlet to make sure there is 220 volts at the outlet. if it is 110 it would be enough for the unit to seem like it is running but the compressor would not run and cool down the room.
