Should I leave my window air conditioner on all day ?
Question:Should I leave my window air conditioner on all day when I am not at home? I have only a small room to cool 20' x 25' and only use that room while I sleep about < 8 hours. Which would you think was more enviromentally and cost effective?"
Answers:
My advice is not to leave it on when your not home. You never know what could happen. It could short out. If your room is that small it won't take long to cool it down again once your home.
ya i would
Turn the a/c on when you get home from work or after the sun goes down. It should cool your room nicely then.
Do you have severe allergy problem?? If you are home all day, like if you work at home all day, I would leave the air conditioner on. However, all machines require some rest, and turning it off while no one is inside the room would conserve energy. Thus, if you are not home all day, and want your air conditioner off, and only turn it on when i come home.
well maybe just put it on low or on a higher degree then when you get back home change it to a level that you are comfortable with. We all have to do our part for the enviroment. My ac has a energy saver mode which basically turns itself off when the temp is just right. and I turn it to low when I am not home. It may not be perfect when I get home but once I change it it only takes a few minutes to get back to where I like it.
With a place that small I would save on electricity by turning it on when I got home only.
We have whole house A/C and turn it off when we are going to be gone awhile and it cools it off within 15 minutes.
If you have a pet then I would leave it on but at a higher temp. then turn it on when I get home. Look at you meter on the outside of your house when it is off, and look again when your AC is on, will you be surprised!
This is a matter of personal comfort and energy consumption. Heat transfer occurs at a rate that is directly proportional to the square of the difference in temperature. So if it is 70 inside and 90 outside, the amount of energy needed to cool it is four times as much energy as if you let the inside temp rise to 80 degrees. But, coming home to a hot house that takes forever to cool down is no fun. So, what you need to decide, how much comfort do you want versus how much energy do you want to use or save. If comfort is your thing, let it run, if saving is your thing, turn it off, it you are somewhere in the middle, set the thermostat to a higher temp when gone.
When you leave turn it off.
