HELP! Moths are taking over my house!!?

Question:A couple of weeks ago, I started noticing moths in my house. I thought it was strange..
Little by little, they are taking over the house! Does anyone know how to get rid of them? I read on line that I have to look for cacoons all over the place, GROSS! There must be another way!
Is there a place where the moths generally put the cacoons? (Kitchen with food, clothing closet, WHAT?) PLEASE, THIS IS DISCUSTING!

Answers:
I would get cedar shavings or bars/balls & put them in every closet, drawer, chest, etc. This helps send the moths elsewhere & smells better than mothballs. It's safer too. It also is good for silverfish & other cloth-eating bugs. You can get them at Walmart, drugstores, just about anywhere. It's worked for me for 49 years.

I'd call an exterminator and ask for suggestions that are safe. My mom used moth balls in the cedar chest to keep moths away from woolens. I does sound like they hatched somewhere in your house though. Good luck
Your not gonna like my answer Blue, but you need to identify the moth. There are a few it could be. Catch one in a clear plastic bag to get a good look at it and then search online for remedies. Most likely they are coming from old food. Examples would be flour, rice, cereal. Any dry food that has been sitting around in cardboard boxes awhile. A friend of mine just went through this and once she got rid of any old dry goods, even new stuff just in case, and cleaned the cabinets they disappered. I know I'll upset someone by saying this but, BLEACH, BLEACH, BLEACH!! I wish you luck......just think it could be a whole lot worse
depends on what kind of moths they are...

my mom had a problem with "kitchen moths" that took over the house (they are kind of small light brown/beige moths). she solved it with a combination of thorough cleaning of food storage areas, etc and throwing out old rice, pasta, etc, and then placing bay leaves in the cabinets (the moths don't like them)...

it took about a month or two to be completely rid of them (because after the first time when you think you have gotten rid of them all, you are liable to find that within a week new ones start appearing... When you are cleaning make sure to check any cracks and crevices in the back of cabinets, etc ... that is where they often hide!!)
i think i had the same problem once or twice before. i'm not sure if its the same one but its those insects that keeps going to the light. if it sticks around your light bulb then you have to turn off the light of the deepest room in the house, leave the light on in the next room so it will fly off to find the light. when its all gone, go to the next room, turn the light off, till it move to the other one. keep doing this till the last bulb in the house is on. the last light bulb that should be on in the house is the one at the front door. then open the door and turn off the last bulb. it will fly off the find the light on the street. if its the same kind of moth then this will do.
