Can a 1500w metal halide bulb work in a 1000w ballast?

Question:

Answers:
no it doesn't have enough a** to ignite the bulb.A metal halide bulb has the starter in the bulb, and thats what needs to be ignited.

Not usually, check with the manufacturer of the ballast.
It might but this is what we in the lighting profession call "Fire Hazard". You're exceeding the capacity by 50% and you are violating the UL (Underwriter's Laboratories) specifications. So by doing this you're not only creating a potentially hazardous situation but YOU WILL ASSUME ALL LIABILITY in this matter should something go wrong.
Not for long.
The start up pull will blow the ballast. You want room above the 1500 Watt ballast, that is though it is rated for 1500 watts, it will be stronger. That is simply to give the surge to start it.
not for very long other posters are right on it
