What is a double pole circuit breaker and when and why to use it?

Question:

Answers:
A two pole breaker is used on 240v circuits. Each leg to ground is 120v but from leg to leg is 240v. You use them for apliances that require 240v such as AC, stove, heavy power equipment such as 3hp table saw, dryer, etc.

a double pole circuit breaker is usually used on 220 volt wiring,.because both wire are hot, they will trip out at the same time.
Connects power from two separate phases, or hot lines. Normally used for single-phase 208, 220, 240, 480 circuits.

Can also be used for two 120 or 277 volt circuits, if you need both circuits to trip at the same time, or be disconnected at the same time.
A dp is used on 240 volt unites IE a/c (outside) electric dryer. A single pole breaker is used for 120 v branch circuits

There are many types of DP breakers from 15 amp all the way up into the thousands of amps

same goes for single pole breakers
