How do I hang paste-the-wall wallpaper without getting the paste on the front of the paper?
Question:When I go to hang the wallpaper, it rolls up and gets covered with the paste on the wall. Should I give it a light coat of paste, just to stop it rollong and so i can fold it?
Answers:
keep your pasting table clean between each piece, and do a sort of concertina fold as your pasting and then you can unfold it from the bottom once you sorted the top out, if you get any paste on front then wipe with a wet sponge
Never heard of paste the wall paper. Sounds daunting. Do you have a wallpaper brush? that would help smooth it down to stick. With conventional wallpaper you paste the paper and fold it up to let it "cure" so to speak...are you following manufacturers directions? Using the correct paste?
The first answer is a good one, might try prepasted paper, it's easier or buy a walpaper book that tells how to handle the paper to avoid your problems.
You have to fold sticky bits towards each other - go up the ladder - put the top edge on straight - the let the rest unfold.
Well, I KNOW what I'm talking about!!
Good luck!

PS... IGNORE that - just saw the bit about 'paste-the-wall' wallpapering! Haven't a clue, mate!
It's a long time since I used this type of paper, but I think I used a damp sponge to smooth the paper on the wall & also to wipe off any paste that got on the front of the paper.
Its probably quicker to re plaster the wall and emulsion.
You need to make a very simple roller type frame like out of a broom handle with a support at each end put the roll on it.Pull the required lengh of paper up to ceiling and press on to wall and trim. You could also buy in most d.i.y shops a tray that you can put the roll of paper on that will paste or dampen as you pull the paper through both easy to use.Good luck
If you are hanging paste-the-wall wallpaper, you should be rolling a premixed wallpaper adhesive on the wall, approximately one strip wide. Then, you should be taking a dry strip of wallpaper (cut the appropriate length for the wall height and pattern repeat) to the wall. It should not be rolled up. The strip should be hanging free. You should place the top of the strip at the ceiling wherever it matches the pattern on the previous strip and then match and smooth it down the wall. If you really are pasting the wall, the strip of wallpaper you are applying to the pasted wall should NOT be rolled or folded at all. This is just about the easiest way to hang wallpaper there is!
first of all are you using a ready mixed adhesive if not it will roll back up if you are then roll the wallpaper up offer it up to the wall and simply unroll gradually down the wall smoothing out towards the edges from the center as you come down the wall

Don't worry about it. when the paper is dry the paste willl come off with a damp cloth.
