Question:im moving into my outhouse it has its own toilet water and i need to know how i should get electricity sum 1 says use car batteries but thats dangerous how should i get a supply of electricity
Answers:
i definatly wouldnt use a car battery, call an alectrician or the electric company to connect your house to your shed!!
good luck!!
We put power into our garage, by running it underground through drain pipes (we dug a trench). You need a seperate fuse box and it will need to be done by a qualified electrician.
You could use a generator, but it would need to be stored outside and can be noisy.
How about solar panels or wind turbine?
A heavy duty power lead of the type used by Motor Caravans. and Tow vans could be a temporary solution, A 25 yd lead would cost around £20 at your local camp shop You would also need a couple of plug adaptors to convert the camping plug to 13 amp. If you want a permanent connection either overhead or buried leave this to the proper qualified people
I have loved your answers so far!No one seems to notice that you are pulling their legs! Are they all gullible or are they answering tongue in cheek?Have you insulated your shed?It will be much cheaper on the electric if you do and warmer in winter. The toilet is a portaloo is it,or a real one attached to the mains sewerage? If not there could be a health and safety issue there. At least you do not have any council tax to pay,but if you actually prepare food in it then that is illegal! When is the "shed warming" can I come.xx
MOVING OUT OF HOUSE TO OUT HOUSE REALL GOOD WELL I HOPE YOU ENJOY THE SCENT OF YOUR NEW LIVIN QUARTERS YOU MUSTA BEEN A BAD BOY!use a flashlight for lighting and when you need power for elec appliances plug into your backside
No self-respecting outhouse would want power. It takes away from the ambience.
Who on earth told you that using a car battery was dangerous. I'm building a house at the moment and all the lighting will 12 volt coming from a battery. In fact , there will be four batteries connected in parallel to maintain 12 volts and give me more capacity. They will be kept charged by solar panels. Car batteries aren't the best to use. You would be better to use deep cycle batteries but a car battery will do. If you want to run anything else on electricity then you need to spend more money to set that up. There's a bit of maths needed to figure out what you really need. Google "Alternative Energy" or "Alternative Power" and see what you come up with.
Give it a go and have some fun. You can't get into much trouble but just make sure that at the battery, put in the line a circuit breaker or fuse so if you make a mistake you don't finish up burning the wiring you have set up. You won't get electrocuted on 12 volts.
Another tip, if you are sleeping out there, don't charge the battery or batteries in the same room. They give off hydrogen when charging.
this type of prank question is what blocking was made for... bye
You will need to run some conduit for the wire from the power source. You will probably need a permit so get an electricians advice as you will need one to make the connection.
Pat j has it sewn-up. Now for my pennies worth. I have old car batteries that I retrieved from the council tip, no good for starting cars, but great for supplying 12 volts for my halogen lights, properly installed, and NO transformer. This computer even runs on it using an inverter.
Depends what you want the electricity for.
If it is just for lighting and maybe power a laptop then yes you could use a 12v battery. Like a leisure battery that caravanners use. You would then need an invertor and maybe a solar panel to help keep it charged .
If you want to use power tools etc, then you will need to have the supply properly installed by an electrian. There are lots of regulations governing how to do the work.
The electrican will either have to be Part P registered, and will issue you with a certificate.
Or, you will need to in form your LABC (Local Authority Building Control) beforehand who will check the work on completion.
