Where's my circuit breaker?
Question:The power went out in two rooms in the house (I think I blew the fuse) - but I can't find the circuit breaker to reset it - any ideas on where it usually is?
Answers:
Usually in the basement where your water heater and furnace are at. Or garage if no basement.
look in the garage for the breaker box or in the kitchen
Basement, laundry room. hall out side master bath are best bets
Our breaker box is outside on the side of the house
Yes it is usually in the cellar and behind a metal panel. If you have circuit breakers then they will be in the off position. Try resetting them by switching them to on. If they switch to off again then either call an electrician or someone who knows something about electricity. Do not risk fooling with something you don't know about. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck.
find the meter it will be close to that inside the house.hope this helps
how old is the house? If its within the last thirty years its probably in the garge . Older --on the outside of your house somewhere. Sometimes people put pictures over them
you may just need to reset the GFC on one of the outlets.
Breaker boxes are usually in the basement, outside, or garage
If you live in a old house like my parents its could be in the attic. Our's is in the garage. But I have seen them in kitchen.
Depending on the age of the house, it could be anywhere. If it is relatively new, it has to be exposed for easy access, but if it is very old, it might be hidden in the back of a small closet.
Sometimes the breaker panel is on the outside, on a wall near the electric meter. Also look in the basement and garage if applicable.
It has always been cheaper to run smaller wire than larger, so if the panel is inside the house, it probably isn't very far from the meter. Find where the power goes into the house, and then start looking at every wall surface, inside and outside of closets, as close as you can to the point of entry.
Look in the closets. It's not suppose to be in there but I've run into houses that had them there. Also if you have paneled walls, someone may have covered it with paneling and cut out a piece for access, then tried to hide the cutout. Seen that one also.
