I have a bathroom vanity with 40watt globe bulbs. What kind of fluorescent bulbs should I replace them with?

Question:Because the globes are decorative, I'm not sure I want to put the traditional fluorescent "swirl" bulbs in since there is no shade to cover them. Any suggestions?

Answers:
Personally, this is one spot that I would skip the CFLs and stay with the traditional bulbs. I love my CFLs, but just don't like the appearance of the globe bulb replacements.

There are globe replacements available. You will need to find a store with more than just the basic lighting options, but WalMart does have them here.

As far as wattage goes, you certainly can replace them with a higher "equivalent wattage" bulb without any trouble. The important factor is how much energy the bulb uses, not the light output. If I were going to do this, I would look for a 60 watt equivalent bulb which will still require significantly less current than the 40 watt bulbs you are using now.

Also, these are usually packed individually. I would try one in the fixture to make sure you are happy with the color and output before you open them all. You could at least take the rest back if you don't like them.

go for CFL lamps... energy saving & money saving.. all together.. :-)
There's a few different styles, you'll just have to pick one that suits you. Just be sure that it's rated to replace a 40 watt bulb. A bulb with a higher output could overheat the fixture.
you can get decrotive globes in florecent also i have the same thing 3 bulbs use about the same as one traditional bulb
Go to this page and you will see the different shapes available and yes they do have globe CFL to replace your existing bulbs
