What size Hardie Backer Board for tiling shower?

Question:I'm tiling my shower (walls only) with 16 x 16" ceramic tile. Brick walls, wood framing in place to secure hardie board. My question is.can I use 1/4" hardie backer board instead of 1/2"? I had planned on using 1/2" hardie board...but as it turns out after tearing down the former tile, etc...the 1/4" will fit much better in the space I have (thickness of wall to tub). I just don't know if 1/4" is too light for my size tile, etc. Any advice appreciated!

Answers:
Using 1/4 inch board on the walls is fine. I have used it many times and my tile jobs turn out great. Just make sure that the Hardie Backer board is screwed into studs in the wall usually a 16" center.

You are perfectly fine using the HardiBacker. And, by the way, it only comes in 1/4 inch. The other product is Durock ( or Wonderboard) which comes in both 5/16" and 1/2".
your better off using 1/2 perma base also called durarock liquid nailed and screwed 6in apart on studs 16 in center use fiber tape and sturdy set morter on screw heads and joints and there is a liquid membrane by bosna follow directions on pail let dry and tile away walls only totally different for the floor
You will be fine using the 1/4" Hardie Backer. Just make sure you anchor it securely to your walls. You can get everything you"ll need from Lowes or Home Depot.
