I need to know the best way to rescreed my garage floor with 2 inches of concrete?

Question:My existing garage floor was poorly laid, by the previous owner, and the floor dips at the entrance and when It rains I have a large puddle.Plus also the rest of the floor is uneven.
I have laid a concrete base 10 feet square for a summer house
in the past, but I had wooden planks at the side to guide me levelling the top of the concrete.Inside a garage what do you use as a guide. Also would a ton of sand be enough for a 16 ft
by 8ft floor.

Answers:
Definitely go with a pea gravel mix. Snap chalk lines around the perimeter for your height whatever you want. Usually put some fall to the garage door. 1/4 inch per foot is standard in concrete but I always put a little less in a garage. When you pour mag your edges to the line make sure you take your time and get them level. You can check them by dragging your screed board across them. When your striking it off make a little mark on the very end of your screed stick as your pulling the concrete back just watch the very end of your stick and make a slight indention as your pulling back. If your not making that little mark your to high. good luck

Need to make use of a bonding agent on top of the old floor. It must have oil and grease removed first. Then pour pea gravel aggregate concrete on top, may use a fiber in the concrete to control cracking.
they have this thing in home depot, called quick set concrete 25$ per bag, I had the same thing with the laundry room floor, when I picked up the vinyltiles the floor was very uneven, so I bought this and mixed it myself and the laid it on the floor and troulled it into the crack and even. It worked great and cost 50$ , for a garage it may cost a little more but it is a diy job. You are just supposed to mix it and it is pretty self leveling
2" is not a lot, add a binder and also lay down something like chicken wire to hold it together. Order a cement load and tell them what you need, they will send a mix out when you are ready, and then just trowel it flat to drain
If the existing floor has any large cracks I would remove the slab and pour a new one.

It would suck to spend all that time and money just to have your new floor crack because the existing floor is junk. You never know if the previous owner put down a good gravel bed before pouring the floor.

The new floor might be heavy enough to cause the existing slab to settle then you get cracks.

Either way take the advice of the previous poster about using a chalk line.
I would go with a pea gravel mix,1 gravel x 3 sharpe sand x 1 cement. At one end of garage lay a screed full width of garage and about 300mm out. Then do the same down each side of garage. Do this with a quite dry mix because you can then use these to screed off all the way down your garage. At the door way lay a timber latt across the opening behind were the door will stop. This will help to prevent water getting in, You will have to clean the floor and treat it before screeding it.
