My toilet leaks down ever so often and turns on by its self. what is wrong and how can i fix it?

Question:ever few minutes it turns on by its self and runs till it fills up again. what is causeing it to leak down

Answers:
Flappers should be replaced every two years. It will look good but they go bad. It is so subtle a change that it cannot be recognized by the naked eye or by feel. Be sure to tell the salesman the name of your toilet in case you have a non standard toilet and need a non standard flapper.

The main flap in the tank is abd, its leaking, go to the hardware storeor wal mart and they will haveone to replace it with.
Very easy fix
A leak as you describe is usually caused by a worn "flapper", the rubber part connected to the handle by chain at the bottom of the tank near the center. These things can go bad often and are cheap and easy to replace.
THey can be found at almost all home supply stores and hardware outlets.
Flapper replacement.
Your flapper is not sealing and the tank keeps refilling. Easy fix with a trip to the hardware store. good luck.
It is a worn flapper but in my experience, if the flapper is worn then the main seal is probably worn as well. Better to go ahead and get them both while you are at the store.
Sounds like it's a faulty inlet valve that isn't shutting off properly. When the water level in the cistern reaches a certain point, it will pass down through an internal overflow into your toilet pan to stop your cistern from overflowing. Replacing the inlet valve is usually an easy job, you just have to disconnect the supply, drain the cistern and then switch the valves.
