PLEASE Help!! How difficult is it to use a pad painter? Is it better than a roller? Any suggestions?

Question:I am new at painting. Please give any suggestions to help my first time to be perfect. This is a surprise for my husband.

Answers:
You usually use that pad painter just along edges where the roller is likely to slop paint onto a nearby surface. For example you can do the top of a wall up to the ceiling with the pad painter. That does the top three inches. Then you use the regular roller for the area below that without worrying about paint getting on ceiling.

Just be careful that the wheels on the pad do not get covered with paint (wipe them off if they do), That will keep the paint from ending up where you are trying to avoid getting it.

A roller is best and fastest. A pad is more for going around the trim and corners.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH Boy.. I live in a mobile home and I did the ceilings with one of the pads It works wonders and I did not put plastic on everything...If you do the ceilings use a ladder and take your time...I had like 2 drips from the pad,,,,,,,If I had used a roller,,,,I would have made a mess..
I started using paint pads 31 years ago, when I first saw them advertized on TV. I've had excellent results over the years, but have a friend who tends to paint light over dark, and had trouble with pads leaving thin spots, so the dark showed through. Main thing I like about them is the mess. Lack thereof, I mean. Matter of fact, my twins were 4, and wanted to help paint their room. They got paint on their little pads themselves, ran all the way to the opposite wall with them, smeared the paint on and came back for more. Nary a drip. But then, my twins were always quite reasonable kids. Unlike my others. Rollers spatter. My husband is sure he doesn't spatter with a roller. He still believes that, even after I made him clean the spatters off my shoes, my purse, my dog and my typewriter. And the floor, the woodwork... And his glasses. Brushes drip. Takes a little practice, but you can get just the right amount of paint on a pad, no drip, no spatter, no thin spots, and reasonable 4-year-olds can help. Find some directions and follow them.
