Replacing ceiling fan with extension pole?
Question:My old casablanca ceiling fan has stopped woking (it's about 20 yrs old) and someone gave us a working fan they no longer need after moving to a new house so we are attempting to install the new one. It is on a high ceiling with an extension pole. We have the old fan down & wires cut. How do we get the new fan's wires up the pole? Or can we splice them together somehow?
Answers:
The proper way is to use what is called a butt splice connector they come in different colors depending on the size of wire you have to crimp them in place that way the dont come apart and they will fit in the extension rod you have. when you crimp them give the wire a little tug to make sure they are tight so your not re-doing it when you find out it don't work the wire for typical fixture is 18 ga. so when you go to the hardware just look in the electrical isle they have them there. GOOD LUCK hopew your new fan keeps you COOL.
We used to splice them in the stem.
Where the extension pole goes into the fan housing there should be a pin and cotter key. Where that pole goes in is where the wires start from. If the wires aren't long enough to allow connection, remove the old wires and replace them with the same size and color wire, make your splices with the small orange wire nuts or even better smaller blue ones. have 8 to 12 inches hanging out of the end of the extension tube and hang the fan, make your connections and close everything back up. Before you put the blades on, try out the operation of the motor. Then make your installation and try out your finished project.
Good Luck ! ! !
