How to replace water shut off valve in kitchen?

Question:I tried to replace my faucet in the kitchen and the pipe that I connect to the faucet disconnected itself from the rest of the pipe, which is the shut off valve.

Answers:
The supply line has one end that is a 1/2" female faucet connection, the other end depends on what type of stop valve you have. It is usually a 3/8", but it could be a flare end, or a compression end. The two aren't interchangeable, and need to be matched correctly. Remove the end from the stop, and take it with you, in order to purchase the correct one, the first time. It will give you satisfaction to return and finish the job, the first time. Running back and forth, is a big hassle. Good luck!

You can get a shut off valve that has a compression fitting (no soldering). All you need is two wrenches to tighten it on. If that is what came off then you can put it back on and tighten it up a little more. If the valve had a solder joint, you will need to clean up the end of the pipe in order to install the new valve.
why
That "pipe" is called a supply line. Buy a sheathed flexible one to replace it. They come in a variety of lengths. Make sure you find one for a faucet. It will have 2 different size ends. The faucet end is standard. The end that connects to the valve is most likely 3/8. Take your old one with you.
without trying to be smart, it sounds like you should re-asses your abilities. after all the problems, it would be cheaper to bite the bullet and hire a pro, unless time and inconvenience is not a consideration. good luck
