This site will show you step by step, easy to see how log cabins are made, happy building!
I would go to your local library. It is good information on the Internet but if you are in the process of building and have questions or issues it will probably be impossible to refer back to the computer each time. If you have a book you will be able to quickly go to it and find out the answers. There are very good informational books on the subject.
nowadays so called log cabins are more technically designed than brick buildings .
if you want a genuine log cabin then watch a few old westerns and you'll see that so simple is the design that you can see how it is built .
lay 2 timbers parallel and cut a v notch out of the ends .
cut a v notch out of 2 more timbers and lay them on top of the other timbers connecting the notches .
you now have a square so just continue on up in a similar way until you reach the height you want .
Rough timber will not fit together snugly and so leaves gaps . originally straw was mixed with mud and used to plug these gaps , but nowadays you could probably find a much better material .
that's the basics all you have to do now is posh it up a bit .
PS what makes old log cabins attractive is imperfection caused by lack of materials and lack of skills .
buy a pre-assembled kit and you end up with a modern house made of wood (a pointless exercise if you ask me !)
Since you are on the computer ... why not go to Google.com or Ask.com and type in "Log Cabin Build Kit" and let the powers of the internet work for you? I just looked and there are several sites for you to research. Computer age ... you can find anything!
