Answers:
Rub down very the area very gently, melt a little wax into area, if you dont have correct colour mix a little cherry shoe polish
to blend, leave slightly proud. rub down with the finest silicone sand paper to even as poss polish with french polish(follow inst's on bottle.

you need some cherry wood filler at your local hardware, home remodeling store.

you should try to bring in a part of the table (perhaps the drawer) or anything to match the filler with your color table
hi
no please no stain.
It's some kind of veneer like paper on it and usually it's mdf under
best is to get a wax pencil at your local big store and applied it then used a piece of wax paper and rub it in
should do the trick

The pros use colored markers made for touching up wood imperfections. I just purchased a computer desk that is solid wood and that is what the man selling the desk told us to do if we scratch or chip it.

Hope this helps. :)
It sounds like it may be laminated, and not solid wook~since it looks like it's peeling. I would just find some stain to match and try to touch it up. You could also put a nice table runner, mirror, or doiley (sp?) over the damage:)
Good Luck!!
A quick fix would be to rub the same color wax over the nicks.
