Do you install soffit vents with the vent facing out or in towards the house?

Question:

Answers:
For functionality it doesn't matter if the vents face in or out - and rain doesn't come into play on a horizontal soffit surface - but they are professionally installed with the vanes towards the exterior wall so that you cannot see into the soffit cavity. If any of my framing crews installed them outwards, I would have them turn them around for aesthetic purposes.

what kind of vent are you installing? maybe a dryer style vent from a bathroom? i would go towards the house or towards the back. regular soffit comes in vent or solid.. the vented soffit is just slots cut into the panels. the lines/groves of soffit go towards the house. you would take a 12' sheet and cut to fit the width of the eve
They let air in and need to look good on the outside.
Vents away from the house
Toward the house.
You'll find out I'm the correct one.

Just checked mine, and the grills are indeed toward the house.
I don't think it really matters, but I would turn it away from the house as mentioned before. Some soffit vents do not have directional vanes. Check out this link.

Hope it helps.
Install the vents facing away from the fascia board, and towards the wall. This will keep a driving rain out.
