Do you know that after Jan. 2009 your TV may not work if you pull in your signal with an aerial antenna?
Question:If: 1) You use an aerial TV antenna, rabbit-ears, rooftop, whatever, so you're watching the station's own terrestrial off-air broadcast (you're not paying for cable TV or Satellite TV) and 2.) Your TV is analog, not digital... THEN...
after February 19, 2009 (in 22 months) that system will no longer work.
Did you know it? Do you know anyone in that circumstance? Tell them.
I am asking because some in the government are concerned that this is going to happen without everyone having been informed. Well... let's inform everyone.
You would need to either replace your TV with a digital set, buy an analog-to-digital converter box to enable your analog TV, or get that device with government assistance.
This is because Feb. 19, 2009 analog TV broadcast will be switched off. (The digital signal is already "in the air" free for you to access (free), by the way... in almost all places.)
That will in turn allow a lot of good things to happen in turn.
Many will cancel Pay TV!

I don't believe that this is the government's problem. If a potential backlash is anyon'e problem it is the TV Companies. That being said, I will be very upset if the government decided that they need to use my tax money to help make sure peoples' TVs work. I would like to see them take those funds and put them behind educating the public about the dangers of being sedentary. The general public in the US is fat enough, they don't need to be watching so much TV in the first place.
converters will be $10-20, not a big deal
The people you want to inform probably don't have a computer and therefore can't read your question.. You need another medium to convey your message. er question.
Yes I know that, If it doesn't get delayed again. There is also a provision that every household is eligible for a $50 voucher from the federal government to put towards a new tv or convertor box. the price will probably be more like $150 for a box.
big deal ! if you lived where i lived you dont get reception with an areal antenna, well you do 1 flippen channel! oh jolly joy ! so what do you think this little converter is going to do for me?
How is this a question?
I knew that.
But I hope they have the bugs worked out of it by then.
<<<or get that device with government assistance.>>>
Working peoples' tax dollars going towards a program that insures the idle don't get bored while they wait for their unemployment checks...
Just freakin' wonderful.
And I'm not talking about the disabled here, they deserve help, I'm talking able-bodied loafers.
On that day I will stop watching TV. I have never paid for it and never will.
I dont think they actually completely stop showing television with rabbit ear antenna because they have to realize, what about a person who maybe watches court tv 5 days a week and thats it, the rest of the week they are taking care of the kids and thats it. One day they try to watch the court tv and it wont come on, thats not her fault, thus whatever company will be responsible will have to pay for the converter because its not his/her fault they do not know and are unaware of the changes. I think thats a load of crap how they are trying to inforce a complete digital television. Some people like old fashion and more than 99% of the world likes free.
