What is the best sand to use in a child's sandbox? And where do you buy it?

Question:I just built a sandbox that's 8x4x12. I want to fill it about 3/4 full and would like the sand to be fine but not dusty.

Answers:
You want "Play Sand". It is available at your local hardware, or Lowes. You are going to want to consider delivery, as you are going to require a considerable amount.
To calculate multiply length X width X depth. For instance 8'x4'=32 sq. ft x .75 (three quarters of one foot)= 24 cu. ft.
Since it takes about three fifty pound bags to equal one cubic foot, you will need about 75 50lb. bags. That is a lot of sand to put in the back seat of a Honda Civic, and too much for a one ton pick-up.
Come to think of it, you might do better getting a half load of construction sand from a concrete yard. It won't be as fine, or as clean, but it will come in a dump truck, and cost less. (Play sand should cost about three to four dollars a bag).

Lowe's sells playsand by the bag. Check with a place that sells mulch and gravel. And if you don't have a lid for that sandbox, the neighborhood cats will have a lovely litterbox.
(We learned the hard way.)
There is sand specifically prepared for childrens use, any good landscaping company should be able to help you out.
Good luck :-D
you can get sandbox sand at Toys R Us
