I need help making a horn for my daughter.see details?
Question:I am trying to make a horn,I have 3/8 copper tubing shoved into a piece of wood. How do I make it produce sound?
Answers:
You will build her horn by having a "mouthpiece"(to create the sound), a length of tubing for the body (the length of your tubing will help determine the pitch the horn produces - the longer the tubing, the lower the pitch will be), and a bell (this will help amplify the sound). The type of materials that the instrument is made of will determine the tone's quality. I wouldnt worry too much about putting holes in the tubing... but perhaps you could demonstrate the sound difference by making 3 seperate horns (different lengths). Use a funnel or something similar for the bell. Im not sure what to suggest for a mouthpiece. The best thing would be to borrow a trumpet, french horn, or trombone mouthpiece from someone who plays!! To Produce the sound, put your lips against the end of the pipe with the mouthpiece (or maybe just the end of pipe), shape your lips like you want to say "mmmmmmm", then push air out between your lips creating a "buzzing" vibration. The sound waves will travel through the length of the pipe and be amplified when it exits past the bell.
How to connect the instrument parts? What do you think they made duct tape (or electrical tape) for?
Hey this is fun! I feel like Bill Nye, the science guy! Good luck - and dont forget to footnote FindHomeAnswers....
cut some small holes in it. sorry, instruments just sren't my thing
You will need small holes to control the tones, and a mouth piece or a reed to produce the vibration for the sound. Heck, glue on a new years noise maker mouth piece
