Anyone know what kind of paint they use on bathtubs? how to remove it?
Question:the old owners of home painted countertops(formica which we are replacing) and the tile walls of kitchen with the white bathtub paint they have nowadays. i would like to remove the paint and see if I like the color as I am terrified of removing the tile. the tile is 1 inch tile covering 2 kitchen walls
Answers:
when a bathtub is new, it's not painted. That finish is sprayed on the tub as a powder when the tub is red hot, the powder melts to form the porcelain finish.
Tub refinish kits have a sort of epoxy paint, a two part paint coating system. It is very hard paint and will be very hard to remove. Doubtful you will have good results removing the paint from tile, you'd end up replacing the tile. (which sounds like a good idea,, painted Formica??)
Things to try: Paint remover, acetone, lacquer thinner. None of these will hurt the ceramic tiles (if they are ceramic )underneath,
