Toilet Tank?

Question:i have a standard toilet that i dont wanna replace because of the floor tile matching in the bathroom.is it possible to purchase just the tank to fit that model with out ripping everything out.My tank is cracked and leaking and it is an old model.Do they have a new replacement??

Answers:
Most stores like Lowe's & Home Depot sell the tanks and bowls separately but if yours is old I don't know how well they would match up. I would suggest you write down your toilet brand and model number or anything else that might help and go to a home improvement store and talk to someone working in the bath department.

Check Lowe's or Home Depot. We had to do the same thing a few years ago. Just make sure that the holes line up. If you empty the tank you should be able to take it off and carry it in with you to the store to find one that works.
I am not sure if you can purchase it separately, I guess it would depend on the age of the tank. It would be pretty easy to replace the complete toilet. I know you are trying to match floor tile, but it would remain intact unless you have floor water damage, which would mean it needs to be repaired anyway. Basically the toilet is held in place with 2 screws that come with a new toilet, and a wax ring to seal the toilet to the flange on the floor. You reconnect the the water supply , and you are on your way.
You might find out how old the toilet is by removing the tank lid, since most of them have the date stamped in them.

Hope this helps some! Good luck!

On the lid of the tank, or inside of the tank, you should see who made the tank. Write that info. down on paper, and take the info. or call, Home Depot, Lowe's, or some where that sells that brand of toilet. They will be able to help you with all your needs.
Missy, Yes you can get a replacement tank, and to my knowledge it does not have to be exact model for model or even brand. May want to double check that with your local home depot or Lowes...
Yes, how lucky you are! You should be able to write down the information of you toilet (brand/model number), it should be right on it. Take it to either home depot, Lowe's, or any other home improvement store and the people working there should defiantly be able to help you. :D
It is possible to replace the back of a toilet tank regardless of model or make. I owned and old house built in 1915 and the toilet tank was made of cast iron. It was attached separately from the bowl with a chrome goose neck pipe. I went to Lowe's and Home Depot to see what could be done. They all wanted to sell me a new toilet because I had to drill holes in the back of the new tank to mount it on the wall just like the old one. They said it could not be done. I did get it done. You will need to make sure that the holes line up from the tank to the bowl. There is also a wonderful product out there to help make sure you get a proper seal. It is plumbers goop and it works wonders. It is just a little extra insurance.
chances of finding a replacement at a hardware store are unlikely depending on the age, however there are salvage stores that specialize in your problem. you need to look for building salvage shops. also there are specialty shops that sell replacement parts. it does !!matter if its the same, one does not necessarily fit the other
