How much does it cost to build a wall?
Question:I am thinking of building a small room in the corner of our unfinished basement. The walls I would like to build are 12 ft long, 8 ft tall; and 8 ft long, 8 ft tall. How much for the studs, drywall, and other necessary materials?
Answers:
Fortunate for you that you happen to choose EXACT sizes that the materials are sold in. All you'll need do is cut off the measurement of the studs, subracting the thicknesses of the base and top course.
Spruce 2 x 4's might run you $3.00 each @ 8ft. +/- pennies
Buying in linear feet is how the bar codes are at HD/Lowes.
Buy 2 @ 12 ft., for base and cap, for the 8 ft wall 6 studs for 16 inch centers, for the 12 ft wall 9 studs on 16 inch centers, and allow at least 10% for ooops.
Certainly you can do the math and buy all @12 ft, using the cuts, for horizontal bracing between studs with minimal waste.
If I was doing the job, I'd probably build the frames falt and place then after, attaching to ceiling rafters/joists and floor, then finish.
1/2 inch drywall depending on where you buy might be $10 per sheet in 4 x 8, and again, you can do that math, and allow for waste. Nails, or perhaps rent an air nail gun. Drywall screws, tape, mud, sanding supplies, paint, molding, etc. etc. etc.
Beyond that if you wish to wire them, add plumbing through them, figure that.
Any Home improvement store will give you a price quote if you bring them a materials list.

Do it yourself home depot get your lumber and things. My Dear
5 peices of sheet rock at about $8 each = $40
about 25 8ft 2x4 wood studs @ $3.50ea = $87.50
2 boxes of 10D nails @ about $4
2 boxes of 1 5\8 drywall screws @ $8
5 Gallon drywall compound $12
Roll of White tape for sheetrock $4
about 4 metal corner beed @ $6
wood shims @ $3
asummes you have screw gun, hammer, taping knives, utility knife to cut sheetrock, and circular saw to cut wood studs, a plumb to make sure studs are even and level.. a good 4 ft. T-ruler would help too.
So $180 should do it!
Gotta have a door!, lights, outlets, flooring,
To save a few pennies and some labor, see if pre-cut studs will work. They are 2x4s that are already cut to compensate for the sole and top plates.
Good luck
