How do I paint my kitchen cabinets?

Question:I have old wood kitchen cabinets, I can't afford to replace them so I want to paint them. They have wood stain on them...what is a cheap easy way to get the paint to stick?

Answers:
I have painted my cabinets and they look great. First, wash them really well with TSP cleaner. Be careful, it is caustic so wear gloves. Then lightly sand the cabinets. Use a good primer and then two coats of paint. The paint store will tell you what kind to use. If you take the fronts off be sure to number them so they go back in the correct place. Finish with new knobs and pulls and they will look wonderful.

Wash them down well and let dry. Sand lightly and use a good primer to help the new paint stick. Then paint to the color of your choice.
First, wash them down with a grease remover like "Mean Green Cleaner." (Without this step, no paint is going to stick for long.) Then, I'd suggest spray painting for the best results.
Remove the doors from their hinges and the remove any pulls or hardware. Spray them (outside) first with primer, then your chosen color. Then, with the windows open for ventilation, spray the exterior of the cabinets.
If you use a fast drying paint, like Krylon, you could have the doors back up and in place by the end of the day.
You can get a stripper and strip them down to bare wood, or you can sand them down. If the finish is a very thin coating, sand them down just enough to "scuff up" the surface a bit, then apply a good quality primer before painting. Be sure to use a semi-gloss or satin finish paint for the best outcome, and apply at least two even coats, lightly sanding between coats if necessary.

Another money (and time) saving option is to replace just the doors and drawer fronts after painting the cabinet bases.
Wash them down well and let dry. Sand lightly and use a good primer to help the new paint stick. Then paint to the color of your choice.
First you have to remove tha cabinets from the hinges. Then clean them. Now you should be able to paint them.
wash them down real good..then lightly sand them..take the doors off and do them seperate..paint..may need a few coats but theyll look great an new when your finished..
good luck
