Planting over Phone Line?

Question:I uncovered a 3" PVC pipe that encases the wires for the phone line into the house when I was digging holes to plant some trees. The pipe is fine and there is no damage or anything so is it ok to still plant my tree beside it?

Answers:
oh yea.. it might encase the phone line and damage it but probably not in your lifetime..lok

It's unlikely it was buried deep. It is however not strictly your property until it enters the house. Obviously it is encased for some reason, and you might just check with the provider as to why?

Depending on the tree species, I doubt root intrusion could possibly be a concern unless, like some species,,, OAK , Maple, ROOTS do show up above ground, as they make their way to a source of nourishment.

I guess If I had the problem I'd likely re-locate the PVC encased lines, and choose tree species known to be deep rooted most especially as they become mature. A 3 inch PVC is likely thick walled, but I'd probably set everything to MY best possible advantage NOW, avoiding any issues a few years from now.
