somewhere, The attic is closed off from the rest of the house

Answers:
It will take you about 10 day to get rid of all the bats in your house. you will need lots of silicone caulk some expandable foam, a roll of duct tape and some bird netting.
First step.... Find out where the bats are coming and going from. Go outside at dusk and you will see where they are coming from.
Next.. During daylight hours seal all the holes in the boxing and facial of your home except where they are entering and exiting.
Next.. Where the bats are entering and exiting you need to drape the bird netting over these holes. Attach it with staples or tape or both, it needs to be secure at the top and on the sides. Attach it so that it has a little play in the center almost so that you can just reach up into it from the bottom. Do not tape off the bottom of the bird netting.
Here is what will happen...... The bats will come out at dusk and encounter the bird netting. They have to go out so they will flutter down the net then fly away. When they return to go back inside they will try to enter at the same spot they previously did. But the net is in the way, They cannot find the hole in the bottom of the netting to go back in. They will try all night to get back in until dawn. It will take several days to get them all out because they don't all come out every night. Leave the net up for 10 days, but inspect it daily to insure that it is secure. After the 10th day IN THE DAYTIME take the net down and seal the hole.
Unfortunately you will have to live with the smell untill it dries out. It will go away through the heat of the summer but almost impossible to remove. All i can tell you to do about the smell is to use lots of air fresheners.
It cost me 1200 bucks to see this happen on one of my rental houses. I have since succesfully evicted at least 30 bat infested homes. SO SIMPLE A CAVEMAN COULD DO IT!!!

Charge them rent and watch them scatter.
call ASPCA
err.maybe u can put a bright lamp or bulb and on it....the brightness may chase the bat away
Firstly are you in the Uk?, because bats are a protected species and you are not allowed to kill them by law. I would get in touch with the environmental agency and seek advice from them. I think there is a big fine for getting rid of bats yourself allegedly
I had bats in my attic and what I didi was to wait for them to leave at night, usually at dusk, then I went into the attic and screened the vents so they could not return. Hope it helps!
I would set out some fogging spray like Raid or Hot Shot foggers (during the day ) and when they get out find the tinest little place they are getting in and close it off.I just saw on the news this morning some people have brown bats in their house and the conservation dept said it is against the law to get them out because it is breeding season, I say tough luck for the bats, it*s my house.
Get some mothballs spread them around in your attic. when the bats leave close off their entrance and collect the mothballs and store them in an air tight container because they are very flamable.
I also have a bat problem. There are places that remove them and repair the places they get in. I am still trying to get costs, etc.. Otherwise I have been told best to let them all out then plug the holes. Problem is this would need to be done in the evening. It is breeding season from what I have read so I believe it is August when the babies will be ready to fly. I do not know what state you live in but if you type in bat removal on your search engine it does bring things up. Good luck. I know how it feels to get a bat in your home.
i would buy some smoke bombs like the ones for bugs and then just leave them in there and they should leave but make sure that there is a way for the smoke t get out so it desnt get into your home.
find out where they are coming out. next build a trap and attach securely where it can't be knocked over. design it where they can get in but not get out. in the morning take the bats and dispose of them properly
