If you only plan on doing it once or don't really have much use for a air compressor, you should just rent one from a tool rental place. If your looking for a high quality compressor, Senco makes good ones. For a cheaper but still pretty durable compressors you could just pick one up from Home Depot or Lowe's. For what your doing, the compressor itself doesn't matter all that much as long as it has a knob to raise and lower the line pressure. I am not sure how much pressure you would wanna run thru your lines. Probably be best to ask on of your local plumbing supply place. Find out how much pressure the lines and connections could handle.
each sprinkler needs 1/2 to 1 hp motor.air compressor cannot work a sprinkler.you need a/c water pump of above strength.
When cleaning out a sprinkler system, the problem usually isn't pressure; volume should be the main consideration. For instance, 100 feet of 3/4 inch pipe has a volume of about 2.25 gallons. The compressor tank will need to be large enough to fill all of the lines in the system at one time, plus about 25% extra to completely clean the lines. If the tank on the compressor is too small, there will never be enough air in the system to displace all of the water. Also, remember that too much pressure will damage the fairly fragile sprinkler heads. I would recommend no more than 25 PSI.
