Light bulb puzzler...?
Question:Last night we bought the newer florescent light bulbs for the house to replace the current incandescent ones. but, none of them (6) worked on our system. I replaced our 100 watt light bulb with the new ones, but the lights never came one. Any ideas. House is <10 years old, so wiring is new and up to code..

Compact Flourescent Lamps sometimes exhibits this problem - the reason could be small time short circuiting somewhere/ or too much electrical noise(back emf related coming through old faulty fans or other electrical equipment connected to same line) or it could be simple case of improper cfl receptor holder( no good contacts)
CFL are actually Power Electronics(different than electrical based incandescent) based system systems - mode of operation is quite different than normal bulb - although they are rated to absorb high spikes - but they do burn out. These are smps inverter based lamps, which tries to provide constant voltage all the time - but if there are sparks/too much back emf as mentioned above - they will burn out quickly. Normal bulbs when given little higher voltage - they light bit brighter - but they eventually burn out too - if the normal bulbs are working properly - then you should ask your electrician to check the short circuiting or back emf related problems as mentioned above.
What happened to those 6 CFL's - did they burn out? did you try installing in some different holder? Study Table Lamp holder could be the best victim for this experiment !!!!
I am pro CFL as they save around 80% of energy bills!!
Try pulling the tit at the bottom of the lampholder up a bit. The incandescent probably mashed it down flat and now it won't make contact. Make sure power is off.
I have also used some CFLs with a design that would not allow the lamp to screw in far enough to make contact.
Make sure they aren't on a dimmer. They only work on regular light switches.
