How can I make a raised firplace hearth with out desroying the wall?

Simply build a free standing hearth. Frame it with treated wood. Plywood it. And stone or tile it. It will be a little heavy, but won't be permanent.
If you are uk, you can't legally unless you're corgi registered, you have to give a chimney/hearth commissioning plate and certificate. If you use timber with tiles on as suggested earlier, this would have to be done so that the solid material (the tiles) are 13mm thick, even so laying them on timber is not ideal.
