cheryl b has the right idea but maybe your gas tap is faulty , after you clean the burner parts as she said and make sure they are seated properly try relighting as usual then if that doesnt work take the burners off so you can see the jet (a small brass hex shape at the bottom) try to get gas through by pressing the gas tap as usual but dont light it if you get gas through its your burner ports of the flame retention rings that are blocked , clean them again , if no joy call out a corgi fitter . be carefull poking needles in to the jet if you make the hole bigger youll have problems controlling the heat ,if your good with tools you could take the jet out and hold it up to the light a 7mm spanner or socket set should fit , the only way it could get blocked is particles coming through your pipework as food spillages shouldnt get in to that area
Do the burners come off. They could be block with grease I soak them in hot salt water with some bleach and give them a good scrub with some wire wool. Let them dry and then put them back on
Two ideas come to mind. 1. Use an air gun like you would use to clean between the keys of your keyboard and blow into the jet holes. 2. Maybe a vacumn cleaner suction would be strong enough to get the particles out. I don't believe I would be digging with sharp objects, sounds like you may have left the pilot light on.
The gas jet is just at the back of the gas knob, not on the burner. Don't poke too hard as gas jets are a soft metal and you can increase the size of the jet if your not careful which will result in a yellow flame instead of a blue flame. Yellow flames cause sooting on the bottom of your saucepans.
get a new cooker i'm just doing that myself for pretty well the same reason and its 9 years old so time it went to the tip
