What's the best underlayment to put under hardwood floors over radiant heat?
Question:I am installing an engineered hardwood floor over a subfloor with radiant heat tubes installed already. The radiant heat tubes have been covered with 1 1/2" of gypcrete. I will be installing this in a floating floor application and would like to find an underlayment which has a low R-value so as to not provide too much resistance to the flow of heat from the floor below. Any suggestions as to brand, thickness or place to find information on this would be very much appreciated.

A thin construction paper is what you are looking for. You can get this at any building supply. Don't use felt paper because it stinks. A floating floor may shrink from heat, check on this before buying
You would need to put a down a vysquin barrier, first. You can get that at the store were you purchased the floor. Or look for a hardwood floor store like Bruce's they will have everything you need plus a lot of free advise. Good Luck
I use 30# roofing felt as a moisture barrier under wood floors.
