I need to find a large metal bowl to make a fire pit with. Can someone help me?
Question:I have a neat idea for a twist on a conventional fire bowl. But in order to build it I need to find the actual bowl part. I'd like to save money by not having to buy an already built fire pit with legs and everything. Does anyone know where I can find a huge metal bowl for a good price?
Answers:
look at your recycling facility, dump, or yard sale for a used smoker grill, and use the base.
Wal Mart, Target, and K-Mart are some stores where you can find a metal bowl (for a low price, too!)
How about getting the tire rim from an 18-wheeler?
It's got a decent height and width, and when you put the 'hub' part down, it's about a foot in depth and 1.5 feet across.
To get one, try going to a tractor-trailer repair shop, tire retreading shop, or used tire store. One way or another you should be able to get one they were gonna throw away - and get it for free.
I don't know where you can purchase such a large bowl, but for another idea, a semi rim, makes an excellent fire pit. You can enclose it, using cement block or decorative stone, or rocks. I have one in backyard & it's nicer than any store bought firepit.

Go to a restaurant supply house, one that handles used equipment, and get a used salad prep bowl. They're a good two ft in diameter and made out of indestructible stainless steel. Just a thought.

We used an old cast iron caldron and buried it in the ground with about the top three inches sticking out of it. We then poured a patio around it.

The best and cheapest solution Ive found is: Go to any scrap yard or just drive around your neighborhood on junk days and get an old washer or dryer and take the tub out it...works perfect and is even vented already for you. so nothing else needs to be done...Good luck
Look for a used WEBER Charcoal grill. Take off the legs and use the steel bowl as your base.
