The cutest one I saw was done in a fish/oceanic theme. The walls were blue with underwater plants painted on them and had fish decals placed about. The clincher was hanging from the light blue ceiling: a life preserver was stuck to the ceiling with some fake legs hanging thru it! It was totally cool.
Male or female?
Paint ceiling and top of walls navy blue. Hang guazy mosquito netting from the ceiling over her bed, get phosphorescent stars in mixed sized and stick to the ceiling and tops of the walls all around. Get a few artificial trees to put in corners, cut out several sets of "eyes" out of neon paper and stick/staple to the walls. Put in blacklight.
You can use an over head projector to shine something on intrest on the wall. Then trace it out and paint it. I've made theme beds. Boats,cars, or whatever.

I did my sons room in a medieval theme. Very easy actually . I faux bricked his walls using 3 colors of paint and a sponge. Put shutters on his windows and did some research on the Internet and found our family coat of arms. There are lots of sites out there with great ideas just google medieval bedroom theme and find one you like. Good Luck!
