Is it possible to take off plaster from brick wall?
Question:We recently bought a house that had a beautiful brick wall in the living room when we saw it first but the previous owner's realtor told them to plaster it. I love the house but hate the plaster. Can I take it off? If not, can I hang pictures on it or is it going to crack?
Answers:
I knocked off some plaster from a brick chimney in a previous home we had. Just used a hammer and a stiff putty kife and popped off the plaster. Had to clean up the brick with wire brush, turned out nice.
I'm am not an expert on brick, and that is what you want to protect. But, I use my Kybota pressure washer to remove plaster from concrete and brick outdoors quite quickly and successfully. You CAN use a pressure washer indoors with enough prep to protect the surrounding areas and materials. But, I would experiment outdoors for a few minutes first with a rented pressure washer from like Home Depot to get a good feel for the different pressures and nozzles, especially on a similar brick, to get a feel for the right amount of oomph. I recently removed paint this way from an indoor brick fireplace and all went well, no water leakage or damage to my hardwood floors nearby. I just bought a huge roll of plastic tarping and made a well-taped down bubble of a work place in which the spray could not escape.
It's my house! Not really ,but the same thing. They painted mine a ugly cream color. You'll have to use a sandblaster. Not a good Idea. I put pictures up on mine. The correct way ,is to drill with a masonry bit, use plastic inserts than put the hangers in them.Screw that! I used Masonry screws, and hung the pictures on those. What ever which way you want. Bye
yes you can but hire a contractor
