Outter oven door glass replacement?
Question:Ok. The outter glass on my oven door exploded/shattered. I've found the part available online. Would I be able to replace it myself? The stove/oven is an Amana. I would rather replace the glass than buy a new stove. There seems to be a track where the glass sits but I'm not sure how to take the door apart and get the glass in. Would this be easy or should I actually hire someone to do this? I'm fairly handy but no expert by any means. The inner glass is intact, it is the glass on the very front of the oven door. Thanks in advance.

Before you go to the trouble and expense, I would determine what caused the initial failure, You don't want a repeat performance. this isn't a common occurrence. Were you cleaning the oven at the time? these units usually lock themselves during the cleaning cycle until it is complete and the unit has cooled down to a safe level. the complete door can be removed to make the process easier, and should you feel more comfortable letting a repair service do the work you can remove the door and take it to them saving the expense of a service call. This would probably also give you the benefit of a warranty on the replacement part. where if you do the work yourself the part will more than likely not be covered.
Fairly simple to do. Pull door ajar, then lift up to remove. Set on soft surface. On sides to remove screws that hold outer casing. Pops loose. Makes sure braided gasket is set back into position correctly when glass is replaced. Reassemble, and done ! Slide back down onto track (Hinges), and close door !!
