Need new vent off main AC vent for addl cooling in bedrooms.?

Question:The AC guy tells me our two bedrooms are sharing one 6" AC vent in the attic. Probably the builder did it to save $$. Question is, how difficult is it to add an additional one? And about what would it cost to have the AC people do it for me? The AC guy said to buy a "crown" when adding it. Anyone know what that is? Could I find one at Lowe's/Home Depot??

Answers:
The "crown" is the collar that will need to be attatched to the unit to attatch the new duct work. You should be able to add the new ductwork because all you are doing is re-routing the air. You will not be adding or removing any air volume so static pressure should remain the same. Lowes should carry the collar with or without a damper to help with the ballancing of the air.

you will need a a/c mechanic to figure this out it is common to use one duct and split off another if there is enough static pressure for both rooms in the duct. though a 6 inch duct does sound small. Call several a/c mechanics and get a bid to repair if possible from each.
It's possible the shared vent was installed for reasons not related to Cheap, on the contractors part. Certainly another line of ducting can be added and registers installed, but without first knowing the size of your AC unit and/or the volume it's designed to deliver, I suspect you should find that out first. You CAN do this but should you is certainly something to learn, as in will it offer sufficient flow/volume? Will it be LESS efficient? Will it put strain on the unit?
go and tell them you need a stick on tap 6"
and a box of 6" flex (the pipe)but flexible tap on truck line and mark truck inside it cut hole and stick tap on run flex to vent your done
