How can I tell which wire is ground I need to replace the plug but the wire on the fan are identical.?

Question:Its an old fan, and both wires are the same.

Answers:
2 wires .. no ground.. one is hot and the other is neutral.

Generally the ground is marked with a black or white stripe, depending on wire color. Watch for the two-toned wire. If there is more than one two-tone, be careful!
just want points lol
plug it in.grab both wires..the one that shocks you isn't it
If you have only two wires, there is NO ground wire. The color scheme is as follows: Black= hot, white=neutral, and green, or bare copper is ground in a 3 wire system.
If it is an undifferentiated, American-style two-prong plug, then it doesn't really matter. If it is a newer model with one prong wider than the other, the wires should be subtly different, too. If you can't tell, take it to a repair shop and don't risk electrocuting yourself.
If the is a 110 elcectrical source It doesn't make any difference which one is your ground. The current alternates back through to the receptacle.
if there are only two wires niether is the ground. (obviously an old fan). One wire is the power coming into the fan the other is the return.
fire fire please UN plug the fan from the wall there both the same.
The ground wire is almost always the green. It should be the green. The neutral is either white or a greyish white. The Black will be your Hot. It could be red for hot but highly unlikely.(Red is 277, 208).
If there are only two wires you don't have a ground, only hot & neutral
GROUND=BLACK OR NOT COVERED (3 WIRES).BUT U WROTE A OLD FAN AND TWO WIRES..JUST PUT ONE WIRE ONE SIDE AND THE OTHER ON THE OTHER SIDE..THEN ITS DONE...
the power side will have a slight ridge sometimes you can't see it but you should be able to feel it, also you can look at it end on for really old stuff , sometimes the wire was dipped before being coated if you strip it a color may be on the wire itself, or you may find . color coded silk like strings ,have seen stuff from china with little + and - molded into it , I have seen wire I didn't know how to read but
99% of it is marked in some form. if constructed as a circuit
