I'm sorry, but your formula doesn't make sense. For one thing, you can't multiply metric sums and then come out with an English result. Metric and American measurements are 2 different systems. As far as "linear", that simply means you are measuring length wise, or in one continuous line.
linear is measured in a straight line from left to right. The formula you gave will give you cubic feet.

linear feet is measured in a straight line for example molding for your home around the floor is measured in linear feet. now a 2 x 12 x 12 is measured not in linear feet but board feet. and this is actually 24 board feet is equal to 2 x 12 x 12 if you email me with what your trying to measure for and what material you plan on using i can give you the exact amount of material you are going to need for your job
