Has anyone had a new driveway entrance cut into a curb?
Question:I'm going to be adding a garage onto my house...but the old driveway will be way to far over from the garage. I was wondering if anyone had the city grind a new driveway entrance in a curb and put a new curb where the old entrance was and how much it costed them. roughly

Make sure your permits are in order before asking the city how much it will cost You? You might have the permit for the garage but lots of places want one for the driveway/curb opening also. Better check with the building codes before you go to far
City won't do it, they have the right to approve it, but, you will have to have it done, and pay for it. The curb will be cut and hauled away, the drive and new approach added.
The best way to do this is to go to the building and safety office in your county or city and request a permit to add and "approach" to your property, you will need to draw up at least a rough plan showing the work you are going to do. next after you get your permit for cost effectiveness, go to a tool rental place and get a cut off saw and cut your surb to the finished outer dimesnions all the waythrough the gutter also. Then, remove the dirt and grass, whatever that stretches from the sidewalk or rouch driveway. This will need to be at a minimum of 4" deeper than grade (the level the ground is at currently). you will need to make it lower by the street to accomodate for the curb. You will need to slope it from your upper depth to that depth all the way across the "approach". Then you will need a rough grade inspection done by building and safety dept. They will give you a yay or nay on the next phase which is either rebar or wire mesh depending in your preference and strength that you want, ie.. if you are gong only to use it for cars or light trucks then mesh is fine, if rv's or tractor trailers at least #5 rebar will be best. after that you need to call for another inspection before you can pour the concret which if you've never done it, call a proffesional or find a friend who can finish good to help you out. likely if you had a friend of that caliber he will know this entire process. Good luck
