What is the difference between 1100w and 30v?? DRILL HELP!?
Question:i have been looking for a drill for a very long time... i am a novice at which drill is what... one thing that reely confuses me is when one drill says that it is 30v and another says its 1100w?? what does this mean? which is better? and if possible why?
Answers:
1100 w (watts) is an AC drill and not a bad size for domestic use
30v (volts) is a battery drill and this is a very good voltage for a rechargable drill
For ease and convenient general use a 18Volt cordless ok.
Watts divided by Voltage available (average 120)= amperage.
Approx 6 amps = 1hp. This would be plenty for general use.
The 30 v (volt) is probably a battery operated drill which has a rechargeable battery with which you need to consider 2 things.
1- It will require a charger and depending how often you use it as well what kind of work it will have to do. (slow speed or high speed drilling).
2- How expensive is a replacement battery and the charging time.
The 1100w sounds like an Ac volt motor which has a cord and as long as it has a place to plug it in you won't be limited in the amount of time you need to use it. That is also a very powerful sounding drill as 1100 watts is a lot of power since 746 watts is 1 horsepower and should last quite a few years as long as you don't abuse it.
Good Luck ! ! !
Ok so, 100 watts/10 amps = 10 volts. Therefore 1100w drill is equivalent to 110 volts. The difference is in strength. Depends what you want to drill.
The salesperson at the store should be able to answer your questions and recommend a drill.
Good luck!
