How is the quality of IKEA kitchen cabinets?
Question:Also, any discussion regarding the difficulty of installing an IKEA kitchen as a DIY project would be helpful.
Answers:
I assembled an IKEA kitchen a few years ago for an architect, and it was alot mare painstaking than regular cabinet installation. I had over a hundred boxes delivered in all range of sizes and had to spend a couple of days picking through it all, to put it all together. Once I had the cabinets all together, it was like normal cabinet installation. As far as the quality, I would have to say that they are sub grade in quality. They are mostly made of pressed wood, which doesn't have the greatest screw holding power and tends to swell when it gets wet. I would have to say that the issue with the wood swelling when it gets wet is the biggest issue. The kitchen isn't the dryest room into house, and if you have a spill or a broken drain then you will have swelled panels, and there isn't any way to repair this. If you are good at puzzles and have patients then I would say that an IKEA kitchen is a DIY project. Good Luck
IKEA has nice and inexpensive furniture, but low quality. Alot of it is pressed wood. It's something that will take you down the road a few years, but keep saving for something nicer for long-term furniture needs.
I really like em , though
They may look nice but I consider them to be low quality -- they are just particle board (sometimes pressed cardboard) covered with venner. For my money I would look elsewhere.
